James is the Senior Civil and Family Clerk at Queen Square Chambers, with direct responsibility for all Chancery, Clinical Negligence, Commercial, Employment, Family and Personal Injury teams.
He joined the clerking team at chambers in 2000 as a junior Criminal Clerk having followed the traditional route of a degree in Building Surveying. In 2002 James broke from his life of crime and switched disciplines to become the Civil & Family clerk.
In 2005 he became the Head of Clerking and was rewarded with the daily responsibility for the smooth running of the clerk’s room and for Chambers more widely in the absence of the CEO.
In 2018 James became Senior Clerk for the Civil and Family teams following the retirement of the Chamber’s CEO.
James is heavily involved in the marketing and strategic planning for Chambers as well as undertaking tendering projects and financial forecasting.
He is extremely knowledgeable about his teams and their practice areas and is always available either by telephone or email to provide guidance and fee estimates.

Beyond chambers James, who was raised in Bristol & Bath, is attempting to acclimatise to life over the bridge in Chepstow. Outside of work he is usually found either trying to keep up with his young son, travelling around supporting Bath Rugby or working on a DIY project he wishes he never started.
