When someone dies in questionable circumstances, the resulting inquest or inquiry is often high profile and always raises difficult emotional and practical issues as well as legal ones. We always aim to handle these issues with sensitivity and compassion.
We act for bereaved families, individuals or regulatory bodies in inquests at Coroners’ Courts, and our service is always tailored, thorough and supportive. We also often represent a variety of stakeholders at public inquiries, including government agencies, local authorities, law-enforcement agencies and private commercial organisations.
Many of our team are also experienced in the frequent civil actions that arise from a death. Because we have a comprehensive understanding of health and safety matters, we are often involved in inquests and inquiries where health and safety law has a large part to play. There are also barristers in the team who undertake clinical negligence work and so can apply their expertise of the clinical setting to a particular case.
We are particular experienced in these areas
- Fatal road traffic accidents
- Fatal accidents on the railways
- Industrial accidents leading to a fatality
- Death arising from medical incidents
- Death arising in care homes or similar institutions
- Death in police custody
