Victoria is currently in Auckland, New Zealand at one of the country’s leading law firms, Meredith Connell. Victoria is based in the employment department and will also be working under Meredith Connell’s Brian Dickey who is the Crown Solicitor for Auckland. The Crown Solicitor is responsible for the conduct of Crown prosecutions in the High Court and District Court on behalf of the Crown. Victoria will therefore be working on exciting employment law cases in a new jurisdiction as well as having involvement in the more serious criminal cases being prosecuted in Auckland.
Victoria is in Auckland as a Pegasus Scholar. The prestigious Pegasus Scholarship is administered by Inner Temple and is described by its First Chairman, The Rt Hon The Lord Goff of Chieveley, as a scholarship which “makes it possible for gifted young lawyers – the future leaders of their professions – to learn about the practical working of the common law system in countries other than their own, and to form enduring links with lawyers in those counties”. Victoria will therefore be returning to Bristol with a unique understanding of the common law system which will be invaluable in her practice as a Barrister at Queen Square.
Victoria will be writing a regular blog about her experience in New Zealand, the first of which can be read here.
