I came to Queen Square Chambers as a third-six pupil in November 2015, having completed pupillage in a London mixed common law set.

Although I had developed a strong second-six practice and was likely to be offered tenancy, I decided a circuit practice – with quicker access to more senior work and a less frantic professional environment – was more suited to my objectives.

Having studied in Bristol, I had no hesitations in returning to the biggest legal hub outside the capital – The Bristol Bar is renowned for its excellent standards and is justifiably regarded as being a very friendly and welcoming environment.  And that has certainly been my experience. The cost of living is reasonable (and the walk to court far healthier than the tube), and the city is active, vibrant and has no shortage of excellent local cider!

I had several offers, but was drawn to Queen Square Chambers by the strong community feel and strong links to local firms across a variety of practice areas.

Having been ‘on my feet’ for just over a year, my criminal practice is almost exclusively in the Crown Court, and I have been instructed in several fast-track matters. There is no lack of opportunity to expand my practice into different areas, my earnings are significantly greater than were previously available, and my aged debt figure very reasonable.

I could not endorse both Bristol and Queen Square Chambers highly enough for anybody looking for a change of scene or to develop their practice beyond its current constraints.
